Luojiatuo Miao Village

Luojiatuo Miao Village is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Luojiatuo Miao Village is located in Pengshui Miao and Tujia Autonomous County, Chongqing, nestled deep within the Wuling Mountain Range. A cultural and tourism resource survey conducted across the county in 2007 revealed that this Miao village has a history of over 500 years, making it the largest and best-preserved clan-based Miao village in Chongqing. The stilted houses built along the mountainside are layered and staggered, exuding a strong Miao ethnic flavor. Although the surrounding mountains have limited the village’s connection with the outside world, they have also helped preserve its authentic Miao traditions.

Luojiatuo Miao Village is the largest Miao village in Chongqing. The village’s wooden stilted houses, either fully enclosed courtyard-style or semi-enclosed wing-room style, are built along the mountain slopes in layers and arranged in an orderly fashion.

Starting in 2016, efforts to upgrade and transform Luojiatuo Miao Village have been carried out in three phases, focusing on integrating agriculture and tourism with culture and tourism. To date, infrastructure within the village and walking trails have been improved, and projects such as pastoral landscapes, lotus pond scenery, and cultural squares have been completed. The village now showcases a renewed image through four themed areas: Miao culture, farming culture, pastoral culture, and rice field culture.

Luojiatuo Miao Village has been honored with titles such as “National Ethnic Minority Characteristic Village” and “Chongqing’s First Batch of Historic and Cultural Villages.”
