Ma Fubo Well is a cultural relic protection unit of Hainan Province.

Ma Fubo Well is located in Bashuo Town, Dongfang City, dating back to the Han, Ming, and Qing dynasties. It is a cultural relic protection unit of Hainan Province.

Protected area: east to the west edge of the ditch field in Shisuo Village, west to the fence of Zheng Erfa’s residence, north to the outside of the gate of Qin Guoxing’s residence, south to the fence of Zheng Zuxing’s residence, with an area of 17,181.5 square meters, approximately 25.77 mu.

Ma Yuan (14 BC–49 AD), courtesy name Wen Yuan, was a renowned general of the Eastern Han Dynasty from Maoling in Fufeng (present-day northeastern Xingping, Shaanxi). Emperor Guangwu of Han, Liu Xiu, bestowed upon him the title “General Who Calms the Waves,” and thus he was later referred to as “Ma Fubo.”

In his youth, Ma Yuan had no interest in burying himself in books and always yearned to go to the frontier commanderies to raise horses and herd livestock. During Wang Mang’s reign, he served as a commandery courier (a local official), and while escorting criminals, he released them out of compassion. Bashuo Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Dongfang City and the seat of the city government. Established as Bashuo Town in 1957, it was restructured as a commune in 1958 and reinstated as a town in 1959. Located in the western part of the city, it borders the Beibu Gulf to the west. Covering an area of 52 square kilometers, it has a population of 60,000, predominantly Han Chinese. National Highway 225 passes through here.
