Labor shortage? Mandarin Oriental Taipei set to open on the 18th still hiring for 40 positions

The “six-star” Mandarin Oriental Taipei has confirmed its opening date as May 18, targeting the top-tier clientele with a total of 256 rooms and 47 suites. Online bookings are now available, with listed rates ranging from a minimum of NT$16,500 to NT$56,000 per night, setting a new price high for luxury hotels in Taipei. However, special opening promotions are available until September 7, with the cheapest rate at around NT$11,000 per night.

In addition to the publicly listed prices, the MANDARIN SUITE and Presidential Suite have undisclosed pricing and require advance phone or email reservations. There is also an Italian restaurant within the hotel, “Bencotto,” built with an investment of NT$150 million, which adopts a more accessible approach—many of its dishes are preliminarily priced at under NT$1,000.

Accordingto the job listings on 104 Job Bank,the soon-to-open Mandarin Oriental is still actively recruiting in May, with approximately 40 different types of positions still open, including roles such as deputy manager and service staff in the F&B department.

Lin Ming-chun, chairman of the investment group behind the Mandarin Oriental Taipei and Zhongtai Hotel, recently stated in a media interview that the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is the management company; the group’s chairman is British, and the Taipei Mandarin Oriental does not have its own chairman. The general manager is appointed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has a total of 27 properties globally, the most in Asia with 14 locations, currently including branches in Bangkok, Macau, Hong Kong, and Tokyo, with another location in Turkey also scheduled to open this year.
