Baishouyan Scenic Area

Among Yongfu’s most renowned cultural attractions is Baishouyan. On the western wall of the cave is a large stone carving of the character “寿” (longevity), measuring 175 cm in height and 148 cm in width. Within this large character are inlaid one hundred smaller characters also meaning “longevity,” written in various script styles including regular, cursive, clerical, and seal scripts—hence the cave came to be known as Baishouyan (Hundred Longevity Cave). The site contains numerous stone inscriptions, including historical records, biographies, poems, maxims, auspicious phrases, inscribed seals, and visitor inscriptions, with contributions spanning from the Song Dynasty to the present. Aside from the large longevity character, other notable inscriptions include calligraphy by the famous Yuan Dynasty master Yu Mian, as well as poems and records by the Ming Dynasty general Yu Dayou related to the suppression of peasant uprisings. Baishouyan has been designated as a Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region due to its artistic and historical significance.
