Cool off at the 2010 Taipei Water Festival—free admission to the waterfront fireworks
With record-breaking high temperatures breaking again and again, all anyone wants is to cool off in a pool. Add in water play facilities and a midsummer night’s lively performances, and you’ve got the perfect summer escape from the heat. Now in its 7th edition, the “2010 Taipei Water Festival” this year emphasizes a beautiful and romantic night scene. For the first time, it takes place at night, themed “Smile – Gongguan Is Beautiful,” featuring a series of dazzling light attractions such as a misting fountain, illuminated Yongfu Water Pipe Bridge, nighttime views of the Water Museum, and spectacular waterfront fireworks, allowing visitors to enjoy the vibrant night scenery along the Gongguan waterfront while playing in the water.

The “2010 Taipei Water Festival” kicks off now and runs through August 29, spanning nine weeks. The event includes fun water activities like sliding down water slides, getting drenched under umbrella waterfalls and water jets, as well as magical magic shows, hilarious clown performances, and high-energy dance numbers. To match the increasingly enchanting nighttime atmosphere of the venue, five “Mosquito Cinema” outdoor movie screenings are scheduled, inviting the public to enjoy films under the summer night sky. Additionally, there will be major evening outdoor performances, such as the “Midsummer Theater Night” on July 24, featuring the performance troupe Performance Workshop (屏风表演班) in their hit play “Three People Can’t Go” (三人行不行), and the “Happy Lovers’ Concert” on August 14, with powerhouse singers like Crowd Lu (卢广仲) and Lee Sheng-chi (李圣杰) delivering live performances.
This year’s event also collaborates with the International Jazz Festival, inviting the renowned British music group Dan Whieldon Quartet to perform jazz pieces, allowing attendees to experience the charm of the nighttime Gongguan waterfront amid the soothing sounds of jazz. During the Water Festival, the Taipei Water Museum will also be open for evening visits. The century-old Baroque-style building takes on a breathtaking beauty when bathed in soft yellow lighting. Photography enthusiasts shouldn’t miss this great opportunity to capture the museum at night.

This year, the Gongguan Water Park interprets the waterfront area through a lens of water-themed art and culture, integrating performing arts, healthy water play, and green energy trends, offering visitors a unique blend of romantic pop culture and artistic living. During the summer vacation, families are encouraged to head to the Fountain Plaza at the Water Park for some splashy fun, and to experience the new look of the Gongguan waterfront through magic shows, upbeat music and dance, and the Mosquito Cinema under the starry midsummer sky.
