Xijiang Miao Village is located southeast of Kaili in Guizhou. Turning northeast from the Leishan intersection, it lies to the northeast of Mount Leigong, 39 kilometers from the prefectural capital Kaili. It is the largest Miao village in China, with over 5,600 people and more than 1,250 households, hence the name “Thousand-Household Miao Village.” Xijiang is the transliteration of the Miao term “Jijiang,” meaning the settlement of the Western branch of the Miao people. The long-term residents are all ethnic Miao, who refer to themselves as “Ganao.” Xijiang Miao Village is located 36 kilometers northeast of Mount Leigong. The inhabitants here are of the Western branch of the Miao ethnicity. The Thousand-Household Miao Village is surrounded by mountains on all sides, with overlapping peaks and terraced fields that follow the mountain slopes all the way up to the sky. The Baishui River flows through the village, dividing Xijiang Miao Village into two parts.
