The cool autumn breeze feels refreshing, and the Mid-Autumn holiday is just around the corner. Families and friends gather together to admire the moon and enjoy pomelos, filling the air with a warm and joyful atmosphere. To help everyone fully enjoy the moonlit night, here’s a list of the best moon-gazing spots in Taipei City—whether you want to climb up a hiking trail for a distant view or immerse yourself in a forest park to enjoy the bright moonlight, these are all great choices for celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

First, we recommend the“Xiangshan Trail”in Xinyi District. This popular trail near Taipei 101 offers views of the bustling Xinyi District and the Taipei Basin. Along the way, four high points—the Photographer’s Platform, Six Huge Rocks, Camera Platform, and Transcendence Pavilion—provide stunning panoramic views that are truly uplifting. Nearby, the“Hushan Trail”also offers breathtaking night scenery. Starting from the side of Songshan Ci-Hui Temple and walking up the steps accompanied by the sound of a babbling stream, you’ll reach three recommended spots: the Four Beasts Square, Fuxing Garden, and 120 Highland.

Additionally, in Shilin District, the“Cuishan Trail”features a wide, light-pollution-free target square and landscape platform, making stargazing and moon-gazing here particularly bright and enchanting. Meanwhile, in Zhongshan District, the“Jiantan Mountain Trail”boasts an observation platform known as the Plane-Watching Platform at its summit—a famous spot for watching planes take off and land. With its endless vistas, it’s also an excellent location for moon-gazing during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The “Camphor Tree and Camphor Lake Loop Trail”, located conveniently near the Maokong Gondola Station, is a gentle, accessible, and friendly trail. Along the way, frogs sing in chorus, and you can enjoy the moon from three spots—Caiyun Pavilion, Huanyao Pavilion, and Lingfeng Pavilion—for a uniquely tranquil and serene experience. Also newly completed is the“Hiking Trail to the Telescope Pavilion”, situated on a small hill next to Mingde Temple on Laoquan Street. It’s about a 30-minute walk from the Maokong Gondola Station. Strolling through the cherry blossom-lined paths on both sides of the trail, you can reach the top in just a few minutes to enjoy sweeping, expansive views of the beautiful moonlit landscape.
