Top 10 Mountain-Friendly Hiking Trails in Taipei for an Autumn Green Getaway

The Taipei City Government recommends 10 trails where you can enjoy the cool weather, step out to the suburbs, briefly escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the mountains.

Located in Xinyi District, the “Xiangshan Trail” is easily accessible via the Xinyi Line of the MRT to Xiangshan Station, Exit 2, then entering from the Lingyun Temple trailhead. The trail features attractions such as One-Line Sky, Shiyu Garden, Six Huge Rocks, and a photography platform, offering sweeping views of Taipei 101 and the bustling Xinyi District—vistas that are both expansive and uplifting. Also in Xinyi District, the “Hushan Stream Trail,” revitalized through ecological engineering, now boasts clear waters and rich amphibian life, making it ideal for a green, mountain-based leisure experience in Taipei.

The “Cuishan Trail” in Shilin District was repurposed from a former police shooting range. With ecological conservation in mind, the city’s Department of Civil Engineering preserved the trail’s natural state, resulting in a tranquil route that serves as a great weekend getaway for nature lovers. It also connects to the “Bixi Trail,” where the forest is denser and features repurposed railway sleepers designed in a “Tetris” motif. Additionally, look out for four playing card-themed platforms—“Spade, Heart, Diamond, and Club”—to add fun to your mountain adventure.
