The Moon over Elephant Trunk Hill Cave, located between the elephant’s trunk and leg on Elephant Trunk Hill, appears as if a bright moon is floating on the water due to its position above the lake – a vivid and iconic sight, making it one of Guilin’s most spectacular landscape wonders. A poem by Song dynasty hermit Ji Bei, "Moon over Water Cave", reads: "There is a bright moon beneath the water, and a bright moon floating on the water. As the water flows, the moon does not leave; when the moon goes, the water still flows." This intricately depicts the miraculous scene where the moon in the sky, inside the cave, and under the water reflect each other, making it one of China’s most beautiful moon-viewing spots, and earning it the 2015 Guinness World Record.
