The Former Residence of Li Zongren is one of the two best-preserved celebrity residences in Guilin. Located on the picturesque southern shore of Shanhu Lake, this residence, later hailed as Guilin’s “Presidential Palace,” was built in the 1940s. It is a villa-style building that blends Chinese and Western architectural elements. Unlike the traditional north-south orientation, it faces west and is centered around a majestic and imposing main building, surrounded by auxiliary buildings such as the aide’s quarters, guardhouse, annexes, gardens, and parking area, covering an area of more than 4,000 square meters.

The Former Residence of Li Zongren is located on the picturesque southern shore of Shanhu Lake in Guilin, adjacent to the Twin Pagodas, at No. 4 Wenming Road, Guilin. This “Guilin Presidential Palace” was built in the 1940s and is a villa-style building that combines Chinese and Western elements. The main building faces east and is a two-story brick-and-wood structure with a construction area of 818 square meters. The first floor includes a guard room, living room, and secretary’s office; the second floor houses a meeting room, study, bedroom, and more. The residence sits close to the southern bank of Shanhu Lake, offering an elegant environment. The original perimeter wall, main building, auxiliary buildings, aides’ and kitchen flats remain well-preserved, and the interior still houses relics such as fireplaces and bathtubs.
