The Hongshui River is the source of the Pearl River. Stretching nearly thirty kilometers within Mashan County, it was recognized as one of the “Eight Great Scenic Spots of Nandi” by the Nandi Administrative Office in 1997. Along the Hongshui River scenic area, the landscape features “hills that are not tall but well-shaped, land that is not rugged yet picturesque, and forests that are not deep yet richly colored.” It boasts majestic and precipitous clustered peaks and cliffs, deep and winding valleys, clear and meandering rivers, along with natural rural pastoral scenery, beautiful landscapes like traditional Chinese ink paintings, and a strong ethnic flavor of the Zhuang people. It is a beautiful spatial complex integrating multiple elements such as color, imagery, state, mood, and sound, making it a unique eco-tourism destination in Guangxi. The Hongshui River scenic area is especially renowned for its vertical cliff faces, which are oddly shaped and varied in form—some resembling hanging curtains, others like honeycombs or layered pancakes. Each rock formation is a scene in itself, each a painting that never fails to amaze and delight visitors.

Travel Tips: Located in Bailongtan Town, Mashan County, approximately 18 kilometers from the county seat. Passenger buses passing through Bailongtan Town are available from Nanning’s Anji Coach Station or the county’s central bus station.

Bailongtan Town: Bailongtan Town is located in the northern part of Mashan County. It lies 13 kilometers south of Mashan County seat and 15 kilometers north of Du’an County seat. The Hongshui River flows around the town, where the Bailongtan Hydropower Station is situated. National Highway 210 runs through the area, giving the town a superior geographical location with convenient water and land transportation and abundant hydroelectric resources. The entire town is nestled against mountains and beside water, featuring beautiful scenery, a pleasant climate, and strong local cultural charm.
