Huanjiang Maonan Ethnic Museum

The Maonan Ethnic Museum is located in Huanjiang Maonan Autonomous County, the only Maonan autonomous region in China. The Maonan ethnic group boasts a long history and distinctive folk customs. The museum is situated within the Cultural and Sports Activity Center in the western development zone of Huanjiang County. Construction began in 2010, and the museum officially opened to the public on June 30, 2012. The museum has a total floor area of 2,000 square meters, including 1,200 square meters of exhibition halls and 300 square meters of storage space.

The first floor of the museum is the "Special Exhibition Area," featuring five thematic sections: the Maonan "Festive Rituals" (Feitao), the Maonan Dragon-Turning Festival (Fenlong Festival), traditional ethnic and folk sports, the weaving technique of Maonan floral bamboo hats, and the casting technique of Zhuang bronze drums.

The second floor of the museum is the "General Exhibition," displaying artifacts and photographic materials related to ethnic architecture, stone inscriptions, plaques, stone carving art, production and daily life tools, food culture, textile and dyeing techniques, folk customs, and the new look of the Maonan countryside.

The Maonan ethnic group has a long history and unique cultural heritage. The Maonan "Festive Rituals" (Feitao) still retain an almost entirely intact form of original ecological culture, while the floral bamboo hat weaving is exquisitely crafted and has been included in the national list of intangible cultural heritage. The Maonan Dragon-Turning Festival, Maonan stone and wood carvings, and the Zhuang bronze drum casting technique have all been listed as regional intangible cultural heritage due to their distinctive cultural characteristics and artistic value.

Opening hours are from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM (summer), or 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM (winter) from Monday to Friday. Arrangements for major holidays are made separately depending on specific circumstances.
