The Letan (Etan) Hydropower Station Reservoir Area features the majestic Hongshui River, which surges forward with overwhelming power and boundless momentum. Originating from the Nanpan River in Zanyi County, Yunnan Province, it flows through Guizhou into Guangxi. It is the mother river and sun river of Guangxi’s ethnic minority groups, predominantly the Zhuang people. The Hongshui River roars with fierce currents, rushing through deep mountains and perilous valleys, with steep cliffs on both banks. The turbulent muddy waters crash against rocks, sending foamy waves high into the air as they roar toward distant mountains. The Hongshui River is one of China’s rare hydropower resources. The expanding Letan (Etan) Hydropower Station has a projected investment of 3.97 billion yuan, an installed capacity of 600,000 kilowatts, and an average annual power generation of 3.5 billion kilowatt-hours. It is one of the ten cascade hydropower stations on the Hongshui River.

Within the Letan Hydropower Station Reservoir Area, the once untamed Hongshui River becomes gentle and docile. The reservoir area features a harmonious blend of mountains and water, with shimmering waves. The river bends are delicate and charming, where water meets shore adorned with uniquely shaped rocks. Lush forests thrive on both banks, and the verdant mountains take on ever-changing, mysterious forms. Villages are mirrored in the water, while the nearby landscape is painted in rich greens, nourished by emerald-green mulberry fields. Surveying the entire scenic area, the river widens and curves, often evoking the feeling of “turning a corner only to find no path ahead, then suddenly emerging into a new world as the boat rounds the mountain.” Sailing on the river feels like entering an isolated paradise, where the pure air and enchanting scenery intoxicate and soothe the soul.
