Beidaihe Scenic Area

The Beidaihe Scenic Area is a national scenic area and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Qinhuangdao Beidaihe Scenic Area is located in the southwest of Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, bordering the Bohai Sea to the south and Lianfeng Mountain to the north. It is world-renowned for its summer resort Beidaihe, the historic city of Shanhaiguan, and its naturally ice-free, deep-water harbor.

The Beidaihe Scenic Area is located in the southwestern part of Qinhuangdao City, 16 kilometers from the city center. The scenic area extends from Daihe Estuary in the west to Yingjiao Pavilion and Pigeon Nest in the east, covering a total area of 19.5 square kilometers. It is an internationally renowned tourist and summer resort.

Along Beidaihe’s long, gentle coastline are stretches of soft-sand beaches with gradual slopes. The seawater here is clear, and the salinity is moderate, making it a naturally excellent beach for swimming. The scenic area boasts numerous historical sites and cultural relics, the most famous of which are collectively known as the Twenty-Four Scenic Spots. With its beautiful seaside environment, picturesque landscapes, and high forest coverage, Beidaihe is also extremely rich in bird species.

According to relevant data, China is home to a total of 1,186 bird species, while Beidaihe alone has 405 species across 61 families and 20 orders, including 68 species under national key protection, many of which are also world-famous rare birds. Experts consider Beidaihe to be one of the best bases for birdwatching and avian research. To effectively protect and develop its bird resources, the local government has established the Beidaihe Bird Nature Reserve and formed a bird protection association. The best seasons for birdwatching in Beidaihe are from mid-March to late May and from early September to mid-November.

Beidaihe enjoys a pleasant maritime climate that is warm in winter and cool in summer. The average summer temperature is only 24.5°C, and the air is fresh. The coastal area has 4,000 negative ions per cubic centimeter of air, which is 10 to 20 times higher than in most cities. In the peak summer months, the sea breeze brings a refreshing coolness, making it an ideal place to escape the heat. In addition to its vast beaches, Beidaihe features more than 20 scenic spots, including Yingjiao Rock, Jinshan Mouth, Tiger Rock, East and West Lianfeng Mountains, Lotus Stone, Guanyin Temple, and Wanghai Pavilion. Every summer, tourists from both home and abroad flock here to escape the heat, relax, sightsee, and enjoy the season.
