The 2019 Ocean & Blue Coast Qinhuangdao International Sailing Regatta Kicks Off

From September 13 to 15, the 2019 Ocean & Blue Coast Qinhuangdao International Sailing Regatta was held at the BSC · Blue Coast Sailing Base. The event featured Topper class, Topaz double-handed class, and Omega three-handed class, attracting over 100 participants from both China and abroad.

The Qinhuangdao International Sailing Regatta has been held for three consecutive years. As the only prefecture-level city in China that has co-hosted both the Olympic Games and the Asian Games, Qinhuangdao boasts unparalleled natural advantages: high-quality waters with moderate temperatures, stable wind directions, and consistent winds. Coupled with well-developed infrastructure and extensive event-hosting experience, Qinhuangdao has become an ideal destination for water sports and is recognized as one of the world’s top seven premier marine competition venues. The development of sailing and windsurfing has also received strong support from the Qinhuangdao Municipal Government, which plans to build an international marine sports center in the Beidaihe New Area.

The hosting of the 2019 Ocean & Blue Coast Qinhuangdao International Sailing Regatta plays a significant role in solidifying the local sailing brand event, supporting the development of a first-class international tourism city, and promoting the integrated growth of sports and tourism. Meanwhile, having hosted numerous major sailing events, the BSC · Blue Coast Sailing Center is widely regarded as one of the most suitable venues for sailing competitions. Its 2.8-kilometer-long naturally pristine coastline is not only hailed as offering “the most beautiful seascape,” but also holds limitless potential. The area combines resources such as “sunshine, seawater, beaches, hot springs, and countryside,” meeting the natural conditions needed to create a world-class sunny coastal destination. It serves as an ideal place for cultural tourism and vacation stays, as well as a perfect venue for sailing and other water sports events and activities.

According to relevant officials, in the future, Ocean Blue Coast aims to develop China’s largest youth sailing training base by integrating sailing camp education, sales and storage of sailing equipment, and sailing competitions. This will allow more professionals in the sailing industry to establish roots here. The goal is to gradually make sailing a distinctive feature of Ocean Blue Coast and BeiBei Holiday, turning this coastal cultural tourism project into a sought-after sailing destination and a place people aspire to visit.

The event was jointly organized by the Chinese Yachting Association, the Hebei Provincial Sports Bureau, and the People’s Government of Qinhuangdao City, and hosted by the Qinhuangdao Municipal Sports Bureau, the Beidaihe New Area Management Committee, and the Hebei Provincial Water Sports Management Center. Attendees at the opening ceremony included Liu Weidong, Secretary-General of the Chinese Yachting Association; He Wenge, Deputy Director of the Hebei Provincial Sports Bureau; Fu Danqing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Yachting Association; Li Biao, Director of the Qinhuangdao Municipal Sports Bureau; Meng Fanggang, Director of the Beidaihe New Area Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports Bureau; Zhang Xiaoyan, Deputy General Manager of the Northern Region of Ocean Group and General Manager of the Qinhuangdao Branch; and Wang Xin, Deputy General Manager of the Qinhuangdao Branch of Ocean Group and General Manager of the Cultural Tourism Company. They all offered encouragement to the competing athletes.
