This simple, standalone structure stands by the seaside, facing the ocean and listening to the waves, exuding an atmosphere as if it were at the end of the world, radiating a solitary and detached loneliness.

This loneliest library in the city is the Sanlian Bookstore Seaside Public Library, located in Nandaihe (Beidaihe New Area), Qinhuangdao, Hebei. It covers an area of 450 square meters. There’s no shortcut to getting here — you have to park your car far away and walk step by step across several hundred meters of sandy beach to reach it. Architect Dong Gong said that upon first arriving at this place, he felt a profound sense of solitude. The endless ocean and the extremely open background make every element feel so intense, so Dong Gong hoped that this library would stand firmly on this beach like a rock, creating a strong presence.
