The “Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau,” a public interest foundation that provides a wide range of Tokyo tourism information, has launched a brand-new feature on its Facebook fan page ‘Tokyo Fan Club’ — the “DEEP TOKYO PROJECT.”
With the concept of “Discovering a new Tokyo,” the project specially invites Taiwanese people living in Tokyo to introduce their most recommended local specialty spots.

The “DEEP TOKYO PROJECT” is divided into eight different areas for introduction. The first installment features “Sugamo Jizo Dori Shopping Street,” known as the “Harajuku for Ojisan and Obasan (uncles and aunties)” and beloved by Japan’s elderly population. Here you can enjoy a wide variety of classic Japanese street foods, indulging in a food adventure from one stall to another just like at a night market in Taiwan. In addition, you can shop for various small goods and daily items, ensuring there’s fun for visitors of all ages.

Don’t worry if you’re not fluent in Japanese—just muster the courage to communicate with local shop owners. Even a smile or some gestures will be met with warm responses from the locals. In fact, shopping streets like this are very popular among Japanese people and can be found all over the country. In this “DEEP TOKYO PROJECT,” we’ll also introduce other authentic Japanese shopping streets such as Ningyocho and Togoshi Ginza.
In addition, the “DEEP TOKYO PROJECT” will showcase hidden gem shops and the latest popular attractions in Tokyo. The second installment in Kichijoji will feature anime-themed cafés and traditional black tea specialty shops. The stroll-around recommendations in the Roppongi area will include the newly opened One Piece theme park “Tokyo ONE PIECE TOWER” in March 2015.
