The Ancient Fortress Folk Culture Tourism Area, a national AAA-level tourist attraction, is located in the Gelao Ethnic Township of Gucheng, Liucheng County. Situated in the northwest of Liucheng County, it is approximately 70 kilometers from Liuzhou City and 24 kilometers from the county seat, offering convenient transportation.

The Gelao Ethnic Township of Gucheng is China’s only township predominantly inhabited by the Gelao people. It has a long and rich traditional culture along with a proud revolutionary legacy. Highlights include the Haishan Site, the best-preserved ancient residences in Liuzhou discovered to date — the Tantouwei Village Ancient Residences, the largest and most beautiful maple forest in southern China, the Qian Village Stone Arch Bridge, the Xinwei Ecological Forest, Jiaren Mountain, Liangsan Mountain, and other stunning natural landscapes. The area also offers a wealth of unique Gelao ethnic festivals such as the Pond-Opening Festival, the Clothing and Food Festival, the She Festival, as well as distinctive local cuisine. It is a century-old town brimming with historical and ethnic charm.

The scenic area is natural, simple, and mysterious, sparking endless imagination... Here, you can visit the ancient residences of Tantouwei Village, built during the Ming and Qing dynasties, sit on the bluestone slabs at the doorway and sing folk songs with Gelao women, enjoy an intimate experience with the clear stream in front of the village, and watch herds of cattle returning home at sunset while cowherds rhythmically tap their bamboo sticks. You can also admire the endless rice fields and rapeseed flowers in front of the village. In autumn, take a romantic stroll through the maple forest...
