Laoling Scenic Area

Laoling Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Qinhuangdao City and the southeast of Qinglong County. It is a renowned mountain within the ancient Yongping Prefecture, featuring major attractions such as Kulong Mountain, Qipan Mountain, Xiang Mountain, and Qilong Pool.

Kulong Mountain is located on the northern side of Heijian Peak, the highest peak of Laoling. The mountain is steep and rugged, making it impassable. At its summit lies a massive skylight-like hole. From a distance, it looks like a bright moon hanging in the mountains, and from another angle, it resembles a crescent moon perched on the brow of a hill. When thick clouds and mist shroud the area, the light from the hole appears intermittently, as if the moon is drifting to and fro amidst the sea of clouds. Legend has it that Kulong Mountain is one of the mountains carried by the mythical figure “Erlang Shoving Mountains to Chase the Sun,” and the skylight is the hole made by Erlang’s carrying pole. The other end of the pole is said to be Cone Mountain in the northern part of Laoling.

Qipan Mountain is located northeast of Heijian Peak, facing Kulong Mountain from afar. The area is covered with lush trees and blooming flowers, with giant rocks arranged like pavilions and gazebos. In the middle stands a huge flat rock resembling a chessboard. On the board, more than ten small stones are embedded like chess pieces, which can be moved back and forth within their fixed grooves but cannot be taken away.

Xiang Mountain rises like an inverted bell east of Heijian Peak. The mountain features grotesque rocks, numerous stone walls, caves, pillars, and fissures. During rainy and windy weather, it emits pleasant, intermittent sounds that rise and fall like classical orchestral music.

Qilong Pool refers to North Dragon Pool, South Dragon Pool, Sisters Pool, Two Dragons Pool, Three Leaps Pool, Black Dragon Pool, and Yellow Dragon Pool. These pools are crowned with waterfalls that flow continuously all year round. Among them, North Dragon Pool boasts the most unique scenery. Standing by the pool and looking up, you will see the waterfall cascading down like light smoke or white silk, gently swaying from above and hanging suspended along the cliff face.
