Wufuo Mountain Forest Park

Located at the foot of the Yanshan Mountains, five kilometers north of Shanhaiguan, Wufuo Mountain Forest Park was developed on the foundation of the former National Forest Park, Geological Park, and national 4A-level scenic areas — Jiaoshan Scenic Area and Changshou Mountain Scenic Area. Designers, drawing on the local legend of the “Five Buddhas Guarding the Pass” from Shanhaiguan’s founding, planned to carve five Buddha statues along the natural mountain ridges within this valley-surrounded park.

The “Five Great Buddhas of the Cardinal Directions” are positioned respectively in the east, south, west, north, and center of the Five Buddhas Plaza. Together with nearby attractions such as the Ninth Heaven, the Relics of the Five Buddhas, and the Guanyin Facing the Sea, they form a richly Buddhist cultural area known as the Five Buddhas Cultural Zone. These will be the tallest stone Buddha statues in the world — the Five Great Buddhas. Each of the five Buddhas will stand 81 meters tall, 10 meters higher than the Leshan Giant Buddha, and with their lotus pedestals, the carved mountain Buddhas will reach a total height of 99 meters.
