Qinglong River

The Qinglong River is an important tributary of the Luanhe River. Its main stream stretches a total of 246 kilometers, originating from Taishoushan Township in Pingquan County, Hebei Province. It flows through both Hebei and Liaoning provinces, passing through the three cities of Chengde, Qinhuangdao, and Tangshan in Hebei along the way. Gathering waters from numerous streams along its course, it eventually merges with the Luanhe River at Luanxian County before emptying into the Bohai Sea.

The beautiful Qinglong River in the Qinglong River basin has nurtured the lives of people on both banks with its generous flow. The villagers along the river have deep emotional ties to the Qinglong River. The river water has been their lifeblood—many grew up drinking its water and playing by its banks. Although most households now have tap water and no longer drink directly from the river, it remains essential for irrigating crops and for daily household uses such as laundry.

Legend has it that the Qinglong River was formed from a green dragon that brought rain and blessings to the people on both banks, and Qinglong County is named after the river. As the mother river of Qinglong, the Qinglong River gently flows from north to south through the entire county, covering 18 townships and 296 administrative villages. Flowing ceaselessly since ancient times, it irrigates fertile fields and nourishes two-thirds of the county’s population.
