Muying Tower at Shanhaiguan
According to the *Records of Shanhaiguan*: “Muying Tower is located on the eastern wall, adjacent to the southern corner of the Eastern Baroque Wall, and was built in the 12th year of the Wanli reign during the Ming Dynasty.” It served as an auxiliary tower to Zhen Dong Tower, along with Linlu Tower. It was later abandoned.
In 1985, the state allocated special funds for its restoration, which was completed in 1986.
The restored Muying Tower stands on a quadrangular city platform, 21 meters wide and 11 meters high, connected to the main line of the Great Wall to the north and south. The tower itself was built atop this platform. It covers a floor area of 119 square meters, stands 10.5 meters tall, features a single-eave hip-and-gable tiled roof, and has 22 tiers. Constructed from brick and wood, the tower is equipped with 20 arrow slits on both upper and lower levels, making it highly defensible yet difficult to attack.
