Chaozhou Revolutionary Martyrs Monument

The Chaozhou Revolutionary Martyrs Monument is a Chaozhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit, a classic red tourism site, and a patriotic education base.

The Revolutionary Martyrs Monument is located within Chaozhou West Lake Park, at the northern foot of West Lake Hill, facing south. The monument stands nine meters tall and was unveiled on April 5, 1955. The front (southern) side of the monument is inscribed with “Chaozhou Revolutionary Martyrs Monument,” beneath which are the words “The CPC Chao’an County Committee, Chaozhou City Committee, the Chao’an County People’s Committee, Chaozhou City People’s Committee, the Communist Youth League of China Chao’an County Committee, Chaozhou City Committee, the Chao’an County Trade Union Federation, Chaozhou City Trade Union Federation, the Chao’an County Democratic Women’s Federation, Chaozhou City Democratic Women’s Federation, Established on April 5, 1955.” The eastern side of the monument is engraved with “Immortal Glory,” erected by the CPC Chao’an County Committee; the western side is engraved with “Evergreen Forever,” erected by the CPC Chaozhou City Committee. The northern side lists the names, genders, and dates of martyrdom of 25 revolutionary martyrs.

Among these martyrs, those who sacrificed their lives during the Great Revolution and the Agrarian Revolutionary War under persecution, suppression, and encirclement by reactionaries include Li Chuntao, Cai Yingzhi, Xie Hanyi, Zhuang Shuzhen, Li Shaofa, Wen Xixiang, and others. Those who died during the War of Resistance against Japan include Chen Liangbao and Chen Chuming. Those executed by reactionaries during the Liberation War include Ke Guotai, Wang Zenghui, and Jiang Xiuqing.

To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation, the people, and the country in the past, the people of Chaozhou erected this monument in the picturesque West Lake Park, ensuring that the spirit of the martyrs is passed down through generations. This site has become an important venue for patriotic education in Chaozhou.
