Hulushan Yacheng Ruins

The Hulushan Yacheng Ruins are a cultural relic protection unit of Chaozhou City.

The Yacheng was a small mountain fortress built halfway up West Lake Mountain, also known as Hushan City, constructed in the 17th year of the Kangxi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1678). Prior to that, in the 13th year of Kangxi (1674), Liu Jinzong raised an army to rebel against the Qing and built wooden barriers on the mountainside of West Lake in preparation for battle. In 1678, General Ma Sanqi, Regional Defender Qiu Changzuo, and Prefect Lin Hangxue built a mountain fortress along the site of the original barriers, standing one zhang tall, six chi wide, and extending 515 zhang. Smaller in scale than the prefectural city, it was called Hushan City. Initially, the Hushan City had four gates: Zizhu, Shuixian, Ximen, and Jingbei. After two renovations during the Yongzheng and Xianfeng eras, the city walls were expanded and the original layout altered, connecting the southern part of the Yacheng with the prefectural city. Later, due to warfare and subsequent demands for park development and greening, the Hushan City gradually fell into disrepair, and today only a few dozen meters of ruined walls remain.

Xihu Subdistrict: Located at the junction of the old and new urban areas, Xihu Subdistrict gets its name from its proximity to the scenic West Lake.

Jurisdiction

It administers six community neighborhood committees: Shangxiping Road, Xinghua Lane, Jiangxi Lane, Zengcuo Lane, Xirong Road, and Yueyuan. The total area of the subdistrict is 0.63 square kilometers, with a population of 26,944 by the end of 2003.
