Chenqiao Village Site

The Chenqiao Village Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Chenqiao Village Site is located in Goubei, Chenqiao Village, Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou City. It dates back to the middle Neolithic Age. The site covers an area of 300 square meters and was discovered in 1957. The deposits contain a large number of oyster and clam shells. There are skeletal remains from 10 individuals, many of which are stained red, likely belonging to burial remains, along with a considerable number of animal bones from cattle, deer, pigs, and others, which appear to be domesticated. The unearthed pottery consists entirely of sand-tempered ware, including jars, bowls, and cups, decorated with shell-incised lines and striations, with some featuring reddish-brown pigment. Stone tools include roughly made oyster shell picks, chopping tools, and hammerstones, as well as ground adzes and whetstones. Bone tools comprise axes, knives, awls, arrowheads, needles, and hairpins. Among these, the oyster shell picks are the most distinctive, being specialized tools used for gathering oysters.
