Zhenfu Building

Zhenfu Building is a Guangdong Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Zhenfu Building is located in Makeng Village, Shangrao Town, Raoping County, backed by "Xiyanshan Mountain" (west of Baifeng Provincial Highway). Built in the 11th year of the Yongle reign during the Ming Dynasty (1413 AD), it is elliptical in shape, with its main gate facing 8 degrees southeast. The building spans an area of 6,936 square meters, measures 97.7 meters from north to south, and has a perimeter of 295.4 meters. It stands 10.86 meters tall, has three and a half floors, three courtyards, and a total of 60 rooms. All structures are built with rammed earth and coated with lime plaster. An oval-shaped plaza is situated in the center of the building, along with an octagonal well. The lintel above the gate bears a sunken stone inscription reading “Zhenfu Building.” The stone foundation and walls are all made of rammed earth, topped with gray tile roofing. The outer walls feature gun and cannon ports, while underground drainage channels and hidden culverts are constructed beneath. This massive and spectacular structure is the largest tulou (earthen building) in the Hakka region of Raoping and remains relatively well-preserved. It holds significant historical and artistic value.

In July 2002, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Units by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province.
