Bao Yun Temple

Bao Yun Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Bao Yun Temple in Furong, Haishan Town, Raoping County was established in the first year of the Yan Yi era during the Yuan Dynasty (1314). It enshrines the "guardian deity" Guanyin Bodhisattva, which was brought by Huang Jianyao, the founding ancestor of the Huang clan in Raoping, when he migrated from Shibi Village, Putian, Ninghua, Fujian to settle in Raoping. After selecting the village site, Huang Jianyao engaged in land reclamation and duck farming. At the time, most people trusted the bodhisattva to bless their endeavors with prosperity, so they built Bao Yun Temple within the old Dao Yun ancestral house to enshrine Guanyin Bodhisattva, along with a shrine for the local earth god beside the temple. As it was initially established in a simple form, the scale was modest, and over the generations, any damage was promptly repaired. The original "Bao Yun Temple" plaque has been well preserved and was renovated in 1996.

Since the reform and opening-up and cross-strait exchanges, many overseas descendants of the Huang clan have proposed rebuilding "Bao Yun Temple" during their hometown visits. Construction work began in August 1996 (lunar calendar) to renovate the temple. The original plaque was embedded on the back wall of the shrine, and the three characters “Bao Yun Temple” were enlarged and engraved in stone according to the original handwriting to serve as the new temple plaque.

The temple covers a total construction area of 176 square meters, featuring a two-courtyard, one-hall, and two-gallery layout. The front hall’s sides serve as bedrooms, while the rear main hall’s shrine houses the statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva (Merciful Mother) along with celestial attendants; the main statue stands about one meter tall. A wing building is constructed to the right of the temple, surrounded by a low wall. The total construction cost was 105,000 yuan. The inscription commemorating the renovation of Bao Yun Temple and the list of donors are embedded on the right inner wall near the entrance.
