Beidaihe Museum

Beidaihe Museum is located at No. 85 Lianfeng Road, Beidaihe District, on the south side of the Olympic Park. It covers an area of 17.345 mu, with a building area of 3,750 square meters. Centered around historical artifact exhibitions, it integrates multiple functions such as exhibitions, scientific research, and cultural services. The museum boasts a rich and diverse collection and represents an advanced level of comprehensive public cultural facility in China.

Beidaihe Museum was jointly established by the government and enterprises in accordance with the national policy that encourages government-led museum development while also promoting broader societal participation. This approach emphasizes state-operated institutions supplemented by privately-run ones. A total investment of 120 million yuan will be phased over one year, with completion scheduled before the end of 2008 for interior decoration, exterior renovation, and courtyard landscaping of the main building. From May of last year to the present, the government and enterprises have invested a combined 120 million yuan to renovate, maintain, design, decorate, and collect artifacts for the former Qinhuang Palace site.

The museum has nine exhibition halls in total. The first floor houses the Ancient Chinese Jade Artifacts Hall, which displays jade artifacts from the Neolithic Age to the present collected by the museum; the Ancient Chinese Stone Carvings Hall displays collected stone carvings; the Ancient Chinese Bronze Mirrors Hall showcases a collection of bronze mirrors; and the Qin and Han Bronze Artifacts Hall displays a collection of bronze items from those dynasties—these make up four exhibition halls as well as an artifact storage room. The second floor contains a multifunctional hall, serving as the central venue for seminars, lectures, and special exhibitions. It provides visitors with multimedia guided tours and brief introductions to major museum exhibitions. The east side of the second floor is the Beidaihe History Hall, which primarily exhibits cultural relics and materials unearthed from the Qin Dynasty imperial palace ruins in Beidaihe, the development of Beidaihe as a summer resort in modern times, the contributions of the Public Welfare Association, the impact of various Central Government meetings held in Beidaihe on China’s historical progress, and the life and work of notable figures in Beidaihe. The Ancient Chinese Ceramics Hall showcases the long-standing development of Chinese ceramic art and features famous kiln artifacts from various periods in the museum’s collection. The northeast corner tower on the second floor serves as a calligraphy and painting room, offering a space for leaders and visitors to appreciate, discuss, and create calligraphy and paintings. The northwest corner tower functions as a VIP room, providing a place for receiving distinguished guests and experts to rest.
