Qinhuangdao Bird Museum is located on Gechi Road by the Beidaihe Beach, covering an area of 50 acres. The museum complex spans a total building area of 1,947.39 square meters, with an exhibition area of 1,650 square meters. The museum specializes in bird specimen collections and uses multimedia to showcase the origin, evolution, and development of birds. It is a thematic science museum that combines knowledge and entertainment.

The architectural design of the Qinhuangdao Bird Museum is inspired by the imagery of “fishing boats anchored outside Qinhuangdao,” evoking the sea breeze unique to the site and expressing poetic sentiment. The design emphasizes the cultural character of the building, with a pure and elegant overall form using modern architectural language. The overall texture harmonizes with the site’s ribbon-like design, continuing the visual rhythm of linear tree lines and shrubbery. With a modest and integrated stance, the museum forms a unified landscape with its surroundings. The building plan features interwoven and staggered layouts, and the structural volumes interlock with clusters of trees. Through the dynamic interplay of shapes, rich contrasts of light and shadow are created, achieving a play of solid and void that offers visitors a diverse spatial experience.

Qinhuangdao Bird Museum is divided into three main exhibition areas: the Bird World Exhibition (450 square meters), the Wetland and Waterfowl Exhibition (900 square meters), and the 4D Dynamic Film Experience Zone (100 square meters). The museum houses 88 species of bird specimens, one dinosaur skeleton fossil, and three sets of dinosaur egg fossils. At the Qinhuangdao Bird Museum, you can learn about the origin and distribution of birds, bird flight, bird life, the wonders of birds, birds and humans, wetlands, China’s wetlands, and wetlands and waterfowl.

A unique sight in Beidaihe is the abundance of birds—you may unexpectedly find them blanketing the beaches, and when they take flight, it’s truly a spectacle of covering the sky. Beidaihe lies along the important East Asian-Australasian Flyway, a migratory route for birds traveling between Siberia and Australia. During the spring and autumn migration seasons, large numbers of birds pass through this corridor, flying north or south. These include various ecological groups such as waterfowl, waders, songbirds, and climbing birds.
