Huayi Donghua Building

Huayi Donghua Building is a cultural heritage site protected by Raoping County.

Huayi Donghua Building is located in Huayi Natural Village, Ba Song Village, Shangrao Town, Raoping County, and was built in 1949. Facing west, it has a circular layout with a diameter of 48 meters and covers an area of 1,809 square meters. It is a two-courtyard enclosed building, featuring a flat house at the front and a three-story building at the rear, with an inner courtyard at the center. The building consists of 28 rooms, one well, and a stone gate tower with an inscribed lintel. The base and walls are made of stone and rammed earth, respectively, with interior walls coated in lime and gray tile roofing. Roof eaves are cantilevered, and each room’s door is labeled with a unique name, giving it distinctive character. The building remains largely intact and is a typical example of earthen building architecture from the late Republican era in China. It holds research value for the study of modern earthen building architecture in Raoping County. In April 2011, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site by the Raoping County People’s Government.

Shangrao Town: Shangrao Town is located in the northern part of Raoping County. The town is surrounded by mountains on the east, west, and north sides; it borders Fujian Province to the east, Dabu County of the same province to the west, Raoyang Town of the same county to the south, and Shangshan Town to the north. The town covers an area of 52.67 square kilometers, including over 40,000 mu of mountainous land and 10,670 mu of cultivated land. It has a total population of 41,865 and administers 13 village committees as well as two neighborhood committees—Maoshi and Bashi. Major grain crops include rice, wheat, dryland crops, and sweet potatoes, while economic crops consist of tea, lychee, longan, plum, olive, and honey pomelo.
