Xinhua Building

Xinhua Building is a cultural heritage site protected by Raoping County.

Xinhua Building is located in Xiashan Village, Shangrao Town, Raoping County, and was built in 1948. It faces west and is circular in shape, with a diameter of 58.4 meters and a total area of approximately 3,347 square meters. The structure consists of two courtyards, with two-story buildings in the front and three-story buildings in the rear. There is an inner courtyard at the center, and the building is divided into 36 rooms, featuring one well and one pond in front of the entrance. The gate is made of stone, but it bears no name. The base is constructed from stone walls, while the main body is built with field soil. The interior walls are coated with shell lime, and the roof is covered with gray tiles. The eaves of the roof overhang, and there is a clay sculpture of a lion’s head above the exterior of the stone gate. This building is relatively large in scale and well-preserved, serving as a typical example of earthen building architecture from the late period of the Republic of China. It holds certain research value for the study of modern Hakka earthen building architecture. In April 2011, it was designated as a county-level cultural heritage site by the People's Government of Raoping County.
