Pigeon Nest Wetland Park is situated at the northeast corner of Beidaihe Beach, with the nearby large shoal serving as an ideal location for birdwatching. In the late 1990s, it was established as a national bird nature reserve. In May 2010, Pigeon Nest Wetland Park was reviewed and approved by the China Wildlife Conservation Association and was officially named the “National Wildlife Conservation Science Education Base.” The Pigeon Nest Wetland is a typical representative of the coastal wetlands in Hebei Province and has been included in the National Important Wetlands List. Since the establishment of the wetland park in March 2009, Qinhuangdao City has actively organized volunteers to carry out the popularization, promotion, and education of wetland ecosystems and environmental protection. Especially since the opening of the Bird Museum, the park has actively conducted activities such as releasing wild birds and participating in the Beidaihe International Birdwatching and Photography Competition. Through various forms of science communication, public awareness of wetland and wildlife conservation has been enhanced, making outstanding contributions to the protection of wetlands and wildlife not only in Hebei but also across the nation.

Named by international wetland conservation organizations as the “Beidaihe Wetland,” it encompasses over 6,600 hectares of forest and more than 500,000 acres of wetlands, providing abundant food for birds. With increasing emphasis and investment in environmental protection by the local government in recent years, the water quality of the Beidaihe Sea has significantly improved. The seawater quality has consistently maintained Class I standards (according to national criteria), ranking among the best in China’s northern coastal areas. The clear waters have made it an important stopover for migratory birds traveling between Siberia and northern China to southern China, the Philippines, and Australia.
