Fu Ning Wenquanbao Reservoir

The Wenquanbao Reservoir is located in Fu Ning County, Qinhuangdao City, northwest of Du Zhuang, about 10 kilometers north of Zuoshan Mountain, four kilometers from Gushiyu, and only about 40 minutes’ drive from downtown Qinhuangdao. It is a roller-compacted concrete arch dam, named for the hot springs in the surrounding mountains. It was Hebei Province’s first roller-compacted concrete test project and one of the Ministry of Water Resources' key science and technology projects during the Eighth Five-Year Plan period.

The scenic area consists of forests, lake water, streams, waterfalls, and mountain springs. It remains largely undeveloped, with dense, pristine forests, many wild pear trees, chestnut trees, and hazelnut trees. The lake is home to carp, tilapia, and silver carp. Local villagers row small boats daily to transport visitors. There are also motorboats available for a round trip fare of 10 yuan.

Most visitors enjoy exploring the areas around the reservoir. If you take a boat across to the opposite bank of Wenquanbao and head straight toward the small bridge inside the reservoir, in June you can see large patches of mulberries ripe for picking. Along the way, wild cherry trees hang heavy with fruit. There is also an abandoned Fangjiahe Primary School whose flat playground, fragrant with fresh grass, makes for an excellent spot for camping and leisure.

Wenquanbao boasts beautiful mountain scenery and bubbling hot springs, and it also serves as an ideal launch point for outdoor enthusiasts looking to enter Zuoshan Mountain without paying the entrance fee. From Wenquanbao, you can trek to Liuguanyu, Tian nv Peak (the east gate of Zuoshan), Liangjiawan, Huaguoshan, Huangniuding, and Mayigou.
