Here, you’ll find less of the hustle and bustle of the metropolis and more tranquility and comfort. Beidaihe boasts not only coastal beauty but also vast forests, wetlands, and a well-preserved ecological environment. For these very reasons, Beidaihe has become a world-renowned bird-watching destination, a paradise for birds, and the “Mecca” for birdwatchers.

The “Beidaihe Wetland,” named by international wetland conservation organizations, is located in the triangular area north of the Xinhe River, south of the Linhai Resort, and west of Binhai Avenue, connecting to the coastal wetlands via the Xinhe River estuary. Beidaihe Wetland is China’s largest urban wetland, encompassing over 6,600 hectares of forest and more than 500,000 mu of wetlands. As spring moves northward, in April and May, the wetland grasses slowly sprout from the soil, their tender green color evoking affection. However, you won’t yet see the thick, lush reed beds—at least not yet—which is precisely why you can observe the various wild birds here more authentically, without too many visual obstructions.

Under the cool sky, the wide and serene river estuary wetland glimmers with a faint green hue. Here, you can easily catch the faintest chirps of birds coming from all directions. The entire wetland is as quiet as a hidden paradise. The birds are completely at ease, chirping and fluttering their wings, breaking the lake’s usual stillness. From late April to late May each year, Beidaihe sees the highest concentration of birds. Flocks arrive from their distant southern homes, joining local species to freely frolic in the lakes, marshes, woodlands, and meadows—fishing, shrimp-catching, and gathering in huge numbers. Birds and sea dance together under the sky, while humans and birds coexist in harmony; the sight of undisturbed birds amidst human presence becomes the most beautiful spring scene in Beidaihe.
