Foyun Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Foyun Temple was first built during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty. Having withstood the dynasties of Ming, Qing, and the Republic of China, it once enjoyed widespread acclaim and flourishing Buddhist activities. For centuries, the temple’s morning bells and evening drums echoed along the shores of the Bohai Sea, while incense and a divine haze enveloped the southern foot of the Great Wall. With its long history, majestic architecture, and grand scale, the temple became a widely renowned ancient site. However, after centuries of historical upheavals and hardships, the original site no longer exists.

To “restore the ancient Foyun Temple and promote Buddhist culture,” and under the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the temple will be rebuilt. Its new location has been chosen at 0.5 kilometers north of Xindianzi Village in the Haigang District of Qinhuangdao City. Situated on a sunny slope of the mountain ridge and positioned along China’s eastern “dragon vein,” this makes Foyun Temple even more mystical. It stands within view of the picturesque Beidaihe seaside, a popular tourist destination. From the new site, looking south you can take in the blue sea and sky, birds dancing over golden sands, as well as mountain scenery and sailing boats. To the north lies Lianfeng Mountain, with the continuous Yan Mountain Range behind. The temple is surrounded by lush green forests and caressed by the mountain breeze. Moreover, there is a newly constructed, one-of-a-kind nine-story crystal pagoda in the world — making this an exceptional Buddhist sacred site.

Under the meticulous design and organization of Master Shengqing, the first phase of construction — including the Mahavira Hall, the Heavenly King Hall, the Bell Tower, the Drum Tower, and the monks’ quarters — was fully completed in October 2006, with the inauguration ceremony of the Mahavira Hall held in April 2007. The second phase, which includes the Crystal Pagoda, the Ten Thousand Buddhas Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, the Three Saints Hall, the Mountain Gate, the office building, and the Chanting Hall, is currently under swift construction. It is expected to be fully completed in 2007, adding a beautiful highlight in celebration of the 2008 Olympic Games.

Transit Routes: Within Qinhuangdao City, you can take the Qinhuangdao Express Line (from Sidaoqiao Bus Station to Beidaihe Railway Station) and get off at Nongmin Park Station, then walk to Xindianzi Village to reach the temple.
