The European-style Street is located on Ba’er Road in Beidaihe District. Before the renovation, most of the buildings along both sides of Ba’er Road were constructed in the 1990s, suffering from severe damage. Facilities such as street lamps and trash bins were outdated and dilapidated, while signs and house numbers were disorganized. To enhance the overall image of Beidaihe’s core tourist resort area, at the end of 2008, Beidaihe vigorously initiated the planning and construction of the Ba’er Road European-style Street. It was included as a key project in this year’s three-year urban transformation initiative and as part of the 60th National Day celebration project, with a total investment of 35 million yuan to transform it into a one-stop tourism paradise integrating sightseeing, vacationing, dining, shopping, leisure, and entertainment.

Ba’er Road is situated north of the famous Tiger Stone Park in Beidaihe District, connected to Dongjing Road to the north and Xihai Beach Road to the south. This area not only sees a concentration of tourists during the peak summer season but also serves as a bustling district that combines shopping, swimming, dining, and seaside views. In its design, Ba’er Road takes into account the characteristics, history, and culture of Beidaihe, while also considering the actual conditions of existing buildings and the business types of merchants. It inherits the regional cultural features of Beidaihe’s multi-national architectural styles and creates a rich Western cultural atmosphere through the appropriate use of European architectural forms, symbols, and colors.

Architecturally, it retains features such as compact building volumes, diverse styles, wooden lattice windows, high-columned arcades, sloped roofs, tiger-head windows, and exposed brick walls. Greening primarily features tall trees, achieving harmony and unity among trees, shrubs, and ground cover plants. Lighting fully considers the regional characteristics and cultural features of the coastal city, setting the basic tone of nighttime lighting as yellow, with red, white, and blue as accent colors. Signs and house numbers break away from traditional designs; the placement of building signs and shop signs is coordinated with road greening, street lighting, and other municipal facilities to avoid mutual interference, resulting in a clean and clear presentation.

A miniature “Arc de Triomphe,” simple yet elegant European towers, Roman-Gothic commercial building designs, and European-style snack and seafood stalls... The renovated Ba’er Road has become a European-style street. Since its opening, the Ba’er Road European-style Street has welcomed nearly one million domestic and international visitors, achieving a new level of urban functionality and landscape for Beidaihe District.
