Qinhuangdao Library

Qinhuangdao Library implements an “open-shelf borrowing, free reading, simplified—” management system; it has fully adopted automated management, built a digital library, and realized the sharing of cultural information resources. It continuously broadens its service channels, offering facilities within the library such as a children’s reading room, a senior citizens’ reading room, and Hebei Province’s first blind library. Especially in line with Qinhuangdao’s characteristics as a seaside tourist city, it has established a tourism resource room and adopted a series of measures to launch and enhance specialized tourism services, thereby giving full play to the public library's functions in disseminating literature and information and providing social education. The library currently houses a collection of 450,000 items, including 4,359 ancient books. It subscribes to over 700 periodicals and more than 120 newspapers annually, and has also purchased over 110,000 e-books from SuperStar, more than 5,000 digital journals from Wanfang, along with a selection of electronic and audiovisual materials.

The library is equipped with eight service sections: the Reference Reading Room, the Social Science Book Lending Room, the Natural Science Book Lending Room, the Special Collection Reading Room (which includes the Blind Library, the Senior Citizens’ Reading Room, the Shih King Yee Book House, as well as tourism resources and foreign language original editions), the Periodical Lending Room, the Children’s Lending Room, the Electronic Reading Room, and the Self-Study Room. It provides 800 seats for readers and includes an academic lecture hall with 300 seats to meet the diverse information needs of different types of users.
