Hengyang Museum

Hengyang Museum is located to the south of the picturesque West Lake Park in Hengyang City, with a construction area of 4,500 m². Its architectural style imitates the traditional Ming and Qing architecture of China’s Jiangnan region, characterized by elegance, solemnity, and simplicity.

Hengyang Museum is a local comprehensive museum, currently housing 20,000 historical relics, including over a thousand classified as precious cultural relics—some even designated as national treasures. Many of these artifacts have been exhibited in more than 20 countries. The museum includes exhibition halls for cultural relics, temporary exhibition spaces, audiovisual classrooms, a central storage room, reception areas, a resource library, and offices. It serves as a key window for the city’s spiritual civilization initiatives and an important base for patriotic education. Since its opening, the museum has hosted exhibitions such as "Exhibition of Treasured Collections" and "National Defense Education Exhibition," which showcase the 5,000-year-old civilization of Hengyang through rich content and innovative artistic forms.

Bronze Ware Exhibition

Upon entering the Bronze Ware Exhibition Hall, visitors are greeted by the rustic elegance of wooden display cabinets and the exquisite beauty of bronze artifacts, creating a serene and harmonious atmosphere. The 180-square-meter exhibition room displays over 90 pieces of fine bronze ware. Among them, the Spring and Autumn Period animal-patterned lifting-handle you is particularly captivating. Comparable in splendor is the Shang Dynasty bronze ox-shaped zun, whose exquisite craftsmanship and stunning beauty are truly remarkable.

Exhibition of Calligraphy and Painting Collections

This exhibition brings together masterpieces from the Ming and Qing dynasties onward, showcasing the artistic achievements of local Hengyang calligraphers and painters. Highlights include the lengthy scroll "Seventy-Two Peaks of Mount Nanyue" by Xiao Yunchu, a leading figure in the calligraphy world, and the "Four Styles of Calligraphy" screen set by Zeng Xi, a giant in the field. These treasured artworks undoubtedly offer visitors a refined and elegant artistic experience.

Exhibition of Wooden Sculpture Artworks by Zhang Ying

The over 40 pieces displayed in this exhibition are the finest works created by Mr. Zhang Ying over decades of working in forested areas and dedicating himself to the art. The artist “transforms the discarded into the miraculous,” breathing vivid imagery and profound meaning into otherwise useless tree knots, thereby providing viewers with a sense of aesthetic pleasure.

Exhibition of Ceramic Collections

This exhibition displays a total of over 100 pieces of ceramics from the Spring and Autumn Period to the Ming and Qing dynasties. The collection is divided into three sections based on excavation from tombs and hoards, kiln site findings, and heirloom porcelain. It includes ceramics predating the Qin and Han dynasties, porcelain from the Wei and Jin periods, as well as products from the city’s own Jiangjia Ancestral Hall Kiln and Hengshan Kiln, along with a dazzling array of heirloom pieces that are truly breathtaking.
