Shaoshan Youth Reservoir Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area.

Youth Reservoir was designated as a National Water Conservancy Scenic Area in 2009. The scenic area is located on the outskirts of Shaoshan City, Xiangtan, and is built around the Youth Reservoir. It is a reservoir-type water conservancy scenic area. The area boasts an excellent natural ecological environment with high forest and grass coverage, fresh air, and rich biodiversity, including rare animals such as pangolins, river deer, raccoon dogs, and badgers. The scenic area features diverse geological structures and varied mountain formations around the reservoir. It is also rich in historical, revolutionary, and ecological cultural significance, making it one of the eight major tourist attractions in Shaoshan.

Youth Reservoir is nestled among the mountains between Qingxi Town and Shaoshan Chong. Originally a wide valley with a deep ravine running through it, the ravine was flanked by vast paddy fields and passed near the former residence of Mao Zedong. Framed by Fengzi Mountain and Heishizhai on either side, the landscape competes in beauty with the lake as its mirror. Towering green pines line the shore, and in spring, the azaleas paint the lake a brilliant red, creating a stunning view. Fishing here allows you to quietly enjoy the delights of nature. A winding path along the reservoir offers panoramic views of the lake and surrounding hills. Here, human artistry and the beautiful natural world achieve perfect harmony.

Main Attractions: Youth Reservoir lies among the mountains between Qingxi Town and Shaoshan Chong, winding along the contours of the land and varying in depth with the terrain. Flowing past the former residence of Mao Zedong and meandering through two or three miles of fertile fields, it quietly flows into the lake. Framed by Fengzi Mountain and Heishizhai, the landscape competes in beauty with the lake as its mirror. Towering green pines stand out along the shore, and in spring, the azaleas paint the lake a deep crimson, while the sound of cicadas drifts gently over the water. Often, anglers can be found sitting quietly on the rocks by the water, enjoying the pleasures of nature. In winter, the reservoir takes on a slender, elegant form; upstream, large sandy beaches emerge, and the grass flourishes, attracting herds of cattle and sheep. The winding old river and the arched stone bridge all present poetic scenes.

Transportation: 2 kilometers from the former residence of Mao Zedong in Shaoshan Township in the direction of the train station.

Take a train from Changsha Railway Station to Shaoshan Station. Shuttle Bus: Shaoshan City has a circular road connecting all attractions. Buses and minibuses run continuously from 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM between the bus and train stations and the former residence of Mao Zedong in Shaoshan Chong. The ride takes about 10 minutes and passes by Shaoshan Youth Reservoir, Mao Zedong Memorial Park, the former residence, Nan’an, Shaoshan Hotel, Mao Zedong Bronze Statue Square, the Memorial Hall, the Library, the Mao Clan Ancestral Temple, Dripping Water Cave, Mao Zhen Ancestral Temple, and Shaofeng Scenic Area.
