Mao Zedong Literature and Art Museum

The Mao Zedong Literature and Art Museum is located on Red Sun Square, east of the administrative center of Shaoshan City. It borders Hero Road to the west and Swan Road to the south. With a total investment of over 30 million yuan, the museum covers an area of 15 mu, has a construction area of 4,000 square meters, stands 18 meters tall, and features a three-story full-frame structure. The exterior design is unique, and the architectural concept symbolizes “rooted in the earth, emerging from the heavens, a unique figure through the ages.” Its functional positioning is as “a platform for studying and promoting Mao Zedong’s literary and artistic thought, a venue for collecting and displaying his literary and artistic works, and a space for researching and exchanging theories on Mao Zedong’s literature and art.” The exhibits inside will focus on the theme of “Mao Zedong and Chinese Literature and Art,” and are currently in the planning and design stage. The museum is expected to officially open to visitors on December 26th of next year, the 115th anniversary of Chairman Mao’s birth.

As one of the most influential revolutionary memorial sites and patriotic education bases in China, the development and construction of Shaoshan have received high attention from the Party Central Committee and the State Council. In 2004, the central government designated the construction of national patriotic education demonstration bases—the “Number One Project”—in Shaoshan, Jinggangshan, and Yan’an. The establishment of the Mao Zedong Literature and Art Museum is a cultural industry project supported by the Changsha Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government for the development of Shaoshan.
