Taoyuan Huangshi Reservoir

Huangshi Reservoir is situated on Baiyang River, a first-level tributary of the Yuan River, in Huangshi Town, Taoyuan County, Changde City, Hunan Province. It is 5.5 km from Changde City and was completed in 1967. The project comprises a dam, spillway, flood discharge tunnel, water intake system, and power station building. The main dam is an earth-core rock-fill dam with a crest elevation of 945 meters, a maximum dam height of 40.5 meters, a crest length of 219 meters, and a top width of 5.9 meters. The reservoir has a catchment area of 5,522 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 630 million cubic meters. Primarily used for power generation, it also serves multiple purposes including flood control, irrigation, aquaculture, and navigation.

The reservoir is mainly used for irrigation while also providing benefits such as power generation, flood control, and fish farming. It is designed to irrigate 375,000 mu of farmland, with an actual irrigated area of 310,000 mu. The total installed capacity is 7,300 kilowatts, generating 18 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The reservoir protects 80,000 mu of downstream farmland, raising the flood control standard to a 10–20 year recurrence interval. The reservoir area includes 42,600 mu of water surface for aquaculture.
