Tomb of Yang Cichang

The Tomb of Yang Cichang is a cultural relic protection unit of Changde City.

Yang Cichang (1588–1641), courtesy name Wenruo, was a native of Wuling (present-day Changde) in the Ming Dynasty. He passed the imperial examination during the Wanli era and served as Minister of War, Minister of Rites, and Grand Secretary of the Eastern Hall. In the local folklore of Wuling, he is referred to as “Grand Secretary Yang” or “Prime Minister Yang.” In March 1641 (the 14th year of the Chongzhen reign), he passed away in Shashi, Hubei, and was buried in Yuanshan (present-day Yuanjiang City) on Yuexing Mountain, but was later relocated to Yuehong Mountain in Jinchangxi, Taoyuan (as recorded in the Yang family genealogy). The tomb faces south and is surrounded by lush woods and bamboo. A stream known as Xixi flows in front of it. In front of the tomb stands a stone stele, which is 1.4 meters high, 0.7 meters wide, and 0.05 meters thick. In December 2012, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Changde City.
