Langshi Village

Langshi Village is located at the junction of five counties and cities—Wugang, Xinning, Shaoyang, Longhui, and Dongkou—approximately 60 kilometers from Wugang City and about 30 kilometers from the county seat of Longhui. It was historically known as the place “where a rooster’s crow can be heard in five counties.”

There are 88 existing structures in Langshi Village (excluding ancestral halls, nunneries, temples, and pavilions), covering a total area of 10,880 square meters, with 55 of them well-preserved. These buildings were constructed between the 52nd year of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty and the 3rd year of the Republic of China. All face south and are neatly arranged, featuring simple yet classic designs, ingenious layouts, and unique architectural styles. Every house is uniformly built with a brick-and-wood frame, flanked by vividly painted gable walls with upturned corners made of blue bricks, and wooden plank rooms supported by timber columns. The alleys between each row of houses are paved with bluestone slabs, so even during heavy rain, you can walk from one end of the courtyard to the other without getting your shoes wet—an extraordinary feat.

Langshi Village served as an economic hub and transportation junction on the borders of the surrounding counties, with stone-paved roads extending in all directions, earning it the nickname “Little Nanjing.”
