Site of the Ancient Duchang Commandery

The ruins of the Duchang Commandery are located on a high terrace of the second-level platform on the south bank of the Zi River, east of Qili Bridge in Qili Village, Toutang Township. In the fifth year of the Yuanshuo era of the Han Dynasty (124 BC), Emperor Wu of Han, Liu Che, enfeoffed Liu Sui, the son of Liu Ding, King of Changsha, as the Marquis of Duchang, and established the marquisate city here. The site still retains parts of the cultural layer, the bridge piers at both ends of Qili Bridge, and sections of the ancient post road. It has also yielded a wealth of Han Dynasty artifacts, including decorated bricks, drum-shaped pedestal stones, roof tiles, pottery jars, iron cauldrons, three-legged bronze washing basins, three-legged plates, and square-handled wine ewers.
