Ximen Gorge is situated in the ancient town of Jixin, just 20 kilometers from the historic and cultural city of Fenghuang County. It lies adjacent to National Highway 209, offering extremely convenient transportation.

The Ximen Gorge rafting course covers 6 kilometers and is part of the Wanrong River basin. It originates from the mountains within the Liangtouyang Nature Reserve; along the way, steep cliffs line the riverbanks, lush trees abound, and the water is crystal clear, dotted with rapids and thrilling shoals. There are over 30 sections of rapids and dangerous shoals, including Tiger Leap Gully, White Dragon Shoal, Crouching Dragon Shoal, Azure Dragon Gorge, Devil’s Dread, and Dragon King Shoal. Among these, Azure Dragon Shoal is the most famous, stretching 400 meters with a drop of over 20 meters. Together with Dragon King Shoal, it is considered a classic among domestic rafting destinations.

The Ximen Gorge rafting area is divided by the river, with the Miao ethnic group residing on the left bank and the Han ethnic group on the right. Since ancient times, this river has served as an impassable boundary between the Miao and Han peoples. On the sheer cliffs on both sides, remnants of the Southern Great Wall (locally called the Ten-Thousand-Li Wall) can still be found. Along the riverbanks, there are also many historical sites and scenic spots, such as bandit-defense caves, beacon towers, ancient official roads, ancient cliff bridges, official reception pavilions, and old millhouses. It has served as the filming location for numerous famous movies and TV dramas, including “The Battle of Wulong Mountain” and “The Campaign Against Bandits in Western Hunan.”

Jixin Town: Jixin Town is located in the northeastern part of Fenghuang County, 21.5 kilometers from the county seat. Following the 2005 administrative division adjustment, the former Huoluping Township and Liangtouyang Township were merged into Jixin Town. The town covers a total area of 116.51 square kilometers, governs 21 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committee, with a total of 4,638 households and a population of 21,800. It is a multi-ethnic area inhabited by the Tujia, Miao, Han, and Hui peoples.

The town enjoys convenient transportation, with National Highway 209 running from north to south, serving as a major route connecting Western Hunan with Huaihua City and Tongren Prefecture in Guizhou Province.
