Graduation season arrives as kapok flowers bloom: Top 10 kapok viewing spots across Taiwan

Whenever graduation season arrives and farewell songs are sung, the vibrant blooms of the kapok tree wish students success as they step into the next chapter of life. The blooming kapok flowers resemble a sea of crimson flames and are hailed as one of the most colorful trees in the world. Towering delonix regia trees can grow over 20 meters high. Since kapok flowers typically bloom in May, June, and July—right around Taiwan’s school graduation season—they have also come to symbolize this time of year. Below is a list of ten scenic spots where you can admire kapok blossoms. Each location is dazzling, with a mix of red and green, and occasionally accented by golden rain trees.

Changhua – Lvsun Road, Xizhou Township
Kapok flowers can be seen throughout campuses and parks in Changhua, but especially along the 2-kilometer stretch of Lvsun Road in Xizhou Township. Every year during the kapok flowering season, the trees burst into full bloom, lining the road like a row of trees dressed in festive red shirts. The blossoms on the trees and the red carpet on the ground create a brilliant sight, resembling a lush green tunnel.

Kaohsiung – Dahua Tomato Club
In Kaohsiung’s “Dahua Tomato Club,” a century-old kapok tree quietly stands within the abandoned factory premises. It has now entered its blooming season, adding seasonal charm to the desolate red-brick gray walls and crumbling ruins, attracting many photography enthusiasts to capture its beauty.
