As graduation season arrives and farewell songs are sung, the flamboyant blooms of the phoenix tree also wish students success as they step into the next chapter of life. The blooming phoenix flowers resemble a sea of crimson flames and are hailed as one of the most vibrantly colored trees in the world, with the tall delonix regia reaching over 20 meters in height. Since phoenix flowers typically bloom in May, June, and July—right during Taiwan’s campus graduation season—they have also come to symbolize this time of year.

Following this year’s spectacular displays of goldenrain trees and tung blossoms in Changhua, as the season transitions into summer, it’s now the time for phoenix flowers to bloom. This year’s phoenix blossoms are particularly vibrant, visible across campuses and parks throughout Changhua. The trees, covered in red blooms and green leaves, paint the sky with vivid splashes of color, exuding lively vitality. Especially along the 2-kilometer stretch of phoenix trees planted along Lvsun Road in Xizhou Township, Changhua County—situated at the junction of Xizhou, Tianzhong, and Ershui, and connecting Dazhuang and Chenggong communities—the trees burst into full bloom every season. The entire roadside avenue looks as if dressed in festive, beautiful red shirts, with both the trees and ground ablaze in crimson, dazzling like a green tunnel.

Besides strolling through the phoenix tree tunnel in Xizhou, visitors can also find a century-old phoenix tree quietly standing inside the abandoned factory of Kaohsiung’s “Dahu Tomato Club.” Now in bloom, it brings a different kind of seasonal beauty to the site’s red-brick walls, gray ruins, and broken structures, attracting many photography enthusiasts to capture its charm.
