The Wulong Mountain scenic area is 28 kilometers from Fenghuang Ancient Town and is the setting of the story behind the TV series "The Battle of Wulong Mountain." Situated in the remote mountain valleys along the Hunan-Guizhou border, the area remains largely untouched due to its inaccessibility, preserving much of its original ecological environment. The scenic zone is composed of numerous striking landscapes including Qianshan Immortal Pillar, Kunshan Jade Maiden Cave, Couple’s Viewing Rock, Five Sons Peak, Wulong Cave, Training Platform, as well as peculiar rocks, cliffs, stone pillars, and unique peaks. There are also the meandering and picturesque Wuchao River Gorge, Longma Waterfall, Ladder Cliff Waterfall, and the clear springs of Wulong Cave.

Best Time to Visit

The Wulong Mountain scenic area is located in western Hunan. The region has a subtropical monsoon humid climate, characterized by mild weather, distinct seasons, abundant sunlight, and plentiful rainfall, with an average annual precipitation of 1300–1500 mm. The mean annual temperature ranges from 12°C to 16°C, with July being the hottest month at an average of 24°C–27°C, and January the coldest at 1.7°C–4.3°C. The frost-free period lasts 240–288 days. The Wulong Mountain scenic area is suitable for travel all year round, but the best time to visit is between April and November.

Spring: The area is filled with fresh green leaves and the sounds of birdsong and blooming flowers.

Summer: Cool paths wind through the mountains, offering opportunities to escape the heat in rock caves and enjoy the shade and breeze under the lush forests on the hills.

Autumn: With drifting white clouds overhead, visitors can hike mountain trails to pick red leaves and wild fruits, finding inspiration in the poetic scenery.

Winter: The landscape turns vast and solemn, allowing for distant views of rugged peaks and stones. On clear days after snowfall, the area is blanketed in a romantic expanse of white.

Within the scenic area lies a place called "Baixiao Cave," where the 47th Army once fought bandits. Recently, explorers in the cave discovered human skulls, discarded bullet casings, and ammunition clips.
