Elephant Trunk Mountain is located in the eastern part of the Tuenliang Mountain Range, 47 kilometers from Fenghuang County, and is a uniquely shaped rocky mountain.

The Tuenliang Mountain Range runs east-west, sweeping down majestically from the Heku area, before coming to an abrupt halt at Machong Village in Sangongqiao, forming a perilous cliff that hangs in midair, with grotesque rocks jutting out — this is Elephant Trunk Mountain. It is named for a cave that goes straight through the southern peak of the mountain, making the mountain’s shape resemble an elephant’s trunk drinking from a stream. The eastern and southern faces of Elephant Trunk Mountain feature towering cliffs and steep, craggy rocks that rise hundreds of meters high. To the northeast of the mountain lies a spectacular waterfall, where a jade-like curtain of water hangs high and plunges hundreds of meters down to the stream below, converging into a powerful current that surges through Elephant Trunk Mountain before cascading down into the Sangongqiao River.

Elephant Trunk Mountain is a marvelous destination. Standing by the Sangongqiao River and looking south, you’ll see towering stone pillars reaching into the sky and peculiar trees clinging to cliffs. Look east toward the water, and you’ll see a waterfall hanging in midair, with droplets flying like scattered pearls and jade. Even more spectacularly, one mountain forms the shape of an elephant’s trunk drinking from the stream, while one river splits into two waterfalls — a scene of countless wonders.
