Former Residence of Tian Xingshu

The former residence of Tian Xingshu is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Hunan Province.

The former residence of Tian Xingshu is located in Fenghuang County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province. He was born in the countryside near the ancient town of Fenghuang in the 16th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1836).

Tian Xingshu (1836–1877), courtesy name Zhongpu, was a member of the Miao ethnic group from Zhen'gan Town, Hunan Province (now Fenghuang, Hunan). His ancestral home was originally in Machongzhai, Machong Township, Fenghuang County, but due to poverty, his great-grandmother Yao relocated the family to Changtan in Mulinping Village, Ganziping Township, during her time. In the 16th year of the Daoguang reign (1836), Tian Xingshu was born in Mulinping. His father, Tian Qinghe, passed away when he was young, and at around the age of twelve or thirteen, Tian Xingshu began herding cattle for others.
